How to choose as web hosting company for your website ?

Deciding a web hosting company is very important because at the end of the day web host is the gateway to reach your website

First if you don’t know what web hosting company is then here is your chance to know what are they. Web hosting companies provide you space on there servers and certain functionality which you can use to build you website or increase its performance.

Let me describe in more layman terms, when you create a website by yourself or with the help that respective website should sit somewhere so that world can access it and that place is provided by web hosting company. Whew !!!

Right, enough of technicalities lets describe some important point a web host should provide you for your website.

Enough space :

A web host should provide enough space for hosting, well my minimum is 1GB of space. I think 1GB is enough when you are at starting point of your website. But remember that web host should support more space if your website grows. That is hosting space should be scalable.

Good Customer care:

A good customer care is very important. Have you ever experienced a situation where you have to wait for good long minutes before someone answers your query? Well I had gone through this kind of situation.

Here is a little story for ya.

I was helping someone to put his website up and running but due to some issues I had to call the hosting company. You will not believe me I waited for good long 20 minutes on phone listening the music and was told by automated machine again and again that my call is important and I am in queue and should wait in order to get help. Though the number was toll free it was quite frustrating to hold for ages.

Anyway the zest of the story is Good customer care , quick response is very essential for choosing a web host.

Please don’t forget web host should be comfortable enough to provide you more space as your website grows because the least thing you want to do is to move your domain to other web host after it is up and popular. So please please ask your web host how comfortable they are for an upgrade when needed.

Essential Facilities

I usually help people to develop their website. And often come across some strange questions like they were allowed to have only 10 email accounts though they wanted 15 but web host didn’t allowed them.

Well FIRST you should be allowed to have as many as emails you need. There should not be any restriction on the number of email accounts you can create because it doesn’t make logical sense at all.

SECOND If you are facing with this kind of strange restrictions then you need to change your web host immediately.

If you do a little research on web hosting companies then you will be surprised to find out that there are many web host like Host Gator which provide unlimited email, and lots of other goodies you can use to increase you revenue.

A web host should provide a facility to backup you website data. It is always a wise idea to backup you data regularly, well that applies to your files on your computer as well. Back them up regularly.

I know I am little tough on you but It is good for you.

A web host should provide facility to create a sub domains. This facility allows you to create various website in a single hosting package which I will describe in future post. BUT If you need that information urgently, then please email me I will be more than happy to help you out.

A most important thing a web host should provide is auto responders. Well to be honest with you ,they are really helpful in providing custom defined message to users when you are in holidays and cannot reach them instantly. The reason I am stressing on auto responder is, it very important to maintain a relationship with your website users and these auto responders are quite handy in building relationships. Well they can also be used in various other ways as well which I will describe in future post.

A web host should also provide a facility to monitor your website, so that you can analyze statistics of your website activities for example how many times your website is being viewed (hits). What pages is being viewed most etc.

Well the above mentioned feature are bare minimum and are required by any kind of website weather it is e-commerce or just simple plain html website.
